Independence Stadium 

Like the name implies, Independence Stadium is the home of the Independence Bowl. Located in Shreveport, Louisiana Independence Stadium was built in 1925. Since its opening Independence Stadium has received 4 major renovations in 1930, 1950, 1973 and the most recent in 2001. These renovations have kept Independence Stadium as one of the most updated and state of the art stadiums in the South. Currently the Independence Stadium seating chart can accommodate up to 53,000 people. The Independence Stadium seating chart is frequently on the list of To-Do's when the stadium receives renovations, in large part to the growing popularity of football in Louisiana.


Uses for Independence Stadium 

Currently the only permanent tenants for Independence Stadium are the annual NCAA Independence Bowl and the LHSAA or the Louisiana High School Athletic Association which leases space and time on the Independence Stadium Schedule for high school football game for local Shreveport and Bossier City high school football teams. Independence Stadium also hosts several Shreveport High School Girls and Boys Soccer games and has been the host for Caddo Middle Magnet School football. Independence Stadium was considered to be the host of New Orleans Saints NFL football after the team was displaced because of Hurricane Katrina but was passed over for different stadiums, though the Independence Stadium staff did open the doors for the 2006-2007 first preseason game for the New Orleans Saints while the last touches on the Louisiana Superdome were being completed.
